Wedding Weekend Getaway

Ordinarily I wouldn't bother announcing that I'll be out of town for three days, but I'm very happy to tell you that I'll be attending my brother's wedding this weekend! My plan is to stay blissfully unaware of what's going on in the world and focus solely on the bride and groom and their happiness. That means no guilt about flying to my destination, no hesitation before eating non-local food, and no issue with having bought a new dress and new shoes to wear. I'm turning off the environmentalism for a few days! See you next week.

  1. Hope you have a wonderful time! Maybe some day, it will be easier to do the things we enjoy with the people we care about without having to "take a vacation from environmentalism." But for now, do enjoy yourself! I had to take more or less the same attitude for parts of our summer holiday...

  3. Hi Melissa! I hope you're right. I'm looking forward to a future with clean transportation, that's for sure. Thankfully I enjoyed myself despite the great transgressions I committed against the environment!

  4. Thanks Jennifer. My optimism is somewhat renewed but it's going to take more concrete action for me to really feel re-engaged with the green movement.

  6. I'm sure we'll connect next time, Lori! My brother and sister-in-law are likely to stay in Boston for a little longer (though I hope they move back here soon!), and I very much like visiting them. And yes, I'll post pictures... once I figure out how to tie a wedding theme into the green theme of this blog!

  7. How did I miss this post?! :-) I know it wasn't the most environmentally-friendly weekend, but I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn't feel TOO guilty. Admittedly, there were times when the choices we made for our wedding were not the most environmentally friendly. That said, when it came to choosing local food, we did try. We chose a restaurant that shops at local farmers markets for their vegetables and sources all of their meats from small farms that treat their animals well. We decided to serve lamb from Pennsylvania instead of venison from New Zealand. We served Massachusetts oysters and fish from Maine. I know we can always do better, but every little bit helps! At least, I hope it does...

  8. I believe you missed this post because I wrote it TWO DAYS before your wedding! You had other things to spend your time on. :)

I'd say that it was quite environmentally friendly, if you ignore your guests' flights. Local food is a big deal. Think about how many cars weren't on the road because all of us walked from the hotel to the ceremony, from the ceremony to the reception, and from the reception back to the hotel! That's a first for me. :)
